Week 15 Assignment: The Future of Technology

Week 15 Assignment: The Future of Technology

I think that one lesson I’ve learned from my experiences with educational technology is that as long as you teach and help your student comprehend how to use a program you are giving them tools for so much. Another lesson I have learned is how to make WebQuest, which is really going to come in handy for teachers to engage students on another level. All the lesson have the same messages don’t be afraid to use technology when teaching, use it wisely, and don’t be afraid something new.
I think that this article is kind of not that informative it’s just saying things will be better in ten years for technology in the classroom, well duh. It doesn’t really help you predict the future of computers in education the “Communicator” is the only thing that gives us an insight to what might happen. The “Communicator” seems like the be all end all of the future student might need so I think that if the makers can make it affordable then it will revolutionize how we teach and how the students learn.

Article respons

“The Future of Online Teaching and Learning in Higher Education: The Survey Says: A survey substantiates some ideas about online learning and refutes others,” is written by Kyong-Jee Kim and Curtis J. Bonk. The article starts by telling there is a rise in e-college like learning but there has been a backlash because students are getting bored because we can’t keep up with technology. The article goes on saying that there are people who think it is and is going to benefit us and then some say that the online course are just not as good as face to face learning. Then it says that the teachers using the technology thinks it does a good job but there is not a lot that actually use the technology, even though there is so much you can do. The method of the study was “This study was based on a survey of individuals believed to have relevant experience with and insights into the factors affecting the present and future state of online education.” “This study is a part of a longitudinal effort to understand the use of technology in teaching, within both higher education and corporate training settings.” They did by doing an online survey. The study confirmed some commonly held beliefs about online education, refuted others, and provided a range of predictions about the future of technology-enabled education. In the discussion the authors talk about how some college have and haven’t embraced the blended learning. The study should we should see and increase of online certifications and see colleges adopting more online course and use it in collaborative learn.

What I learned from the article is the backlash of people who don’t use the technology that’s at there finger tips. I agree with the results because one woman are increasing there use of technology in the class room. I think that if teachers and institutions are open to the change and get well qualified teachers that the future of online learning looks bright.

WebQuest and me

I decide to work alone on this assignment because I am the only theatre major in this class and because it benefits me to do one on my subject. So I did this assignment all by myself from choosing the color and images to find the websites. All in all I think working by me has been a good experience. Even thought when I work alone I have to do more and there is no one to share the stress with. Working with partners does have it’s advantages that I could not get by working by myself.

My WebQuest is called “Mask's In Theatre.” I choose this topic because I and my mentor will be teaching it after the Christmas breaks. What I like most about this project is that I got to do over my subject area. By allowing us to do it in our discipline you are giving us some real life experience with making WebQuest that cater for our classrooms. I think WebQuest are a great idea for teacher our students.

2.1 Chapter 14 answer

2.1 The teacher support tool I choose is the electronic portfolios. There are a couple of programs that assist teachers in the design and management of performance-based portfolios. There are many different types of these electronic portfolios and they are under the categories of personal, academic, and professional. An academic portfolio show the student’s academic performance and achievement. To create these portfolios students important work created with other software application into a portfolio builder.

Presentation again

The first group was Josh's and the thing I learned from this group was about turnitin.com . Some thing that I really like is that they related technology to their discipline for music and for history and the types of software they use.

The second group of Jill and Christin, and they talked about a lot of technology that has been used in classroom today. One that I have never used but like is the Elmo and that the it sort to of the opposite of the overhead. And something that I totally forgot about was television.

The last group of Josh and Wes. They had a good presentation, with there movie I really thought was great i didn't know that program existed. Another thing i learn was about social bookmarking, I want to know more.

More Presentation

Britney and Wayland: There presentation was very good. Somethings I didn't know was about the games. And then about administration spends money but doesn't helps but shoves it off in on the teachers. Something I really didn't know about was the $100 lab top for every students, I really want to learn more about that.

Amanda and Trae : The presentation had a lot of information. Something that I never consider students afraid to ask questions and have the Internet and are able to e-mail their teachers. Another thing I didn't know was the Tele College which it when some one teaches a class in one place and then is recorded then show in another place.

Jason and LaQuisha: The one thing I learned was the K-8 program and that it helps teachers teach students about technology.

Sheila Askins: Something that I didn't know was that you can video student presentations and then show as example to futureclasses. Another thing I didn't know was the overheads became popular in the 1960's.

Project Blog

For my project me and my Partner Shavon Ritter did Integrating Technology into the Classroom. The plan was to work separately but together we do some work together in class but out side we do our own and she would send it to me and i would put it in the PowerPoint. I think we spent a pretty good amount of time in and out of class working on this project. We had some difficulties to finish it but once we got that last bit the piece just fell into place. Me and my partner really haven't had any problems working together. The only problem is that our sound file is a little sad but it's there. I finished the last bit and sent it about ten min. ago. I think we did okay not the best presentation in the whole world but I think it's pretty nice. I think I would not mind working with Shavon again she is really nice and gets her work done. But if it relates to majors i think I should be able to do one by myself since no one in this class is a theatre major.
